Situated inside the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas (part of the Hilton Curio Collection), Lucia brings a modern wave of Mexican fusion to the resort. The interior leans into classic cantina décor, grounded by striking artwork that pays tribute to Día de los Muertos. Visually, it’s highly engaging, and the auditory backdrop matches that energy. During my visit, a heavy Cumbia beat filled the room giving the space an undeniable sense of place, though the bass hits hard enough that it might test the comfort levels of anyone looking for a quiet conversation.

If you are looking to catch a game, several large TV screens are strategically placed throughout. They also feature highly attractive Happy Hour and Taco Tuesday specials that seem designed to draw a lively crowd. Outside, a sizable patio offers an excellent alternative, offering a great space to relax whether you're soaking up the daytime Vegas sun or enjoying the desert evening air.

I visited during what appeared to be a soft opening and was trying to grab a quick meal before heading to a show. Because the restaurant was still finding its rhythm, service felt a little inconsistent. There were moments where our table could have used more attention, especially given our limited time.

That said, one thing stood out: when an issue arose, the staff owned it. Our chips arrived well after an accompanying dish, and the server immediately removed the appetizer from the bill without hesitation. Mistakes happen, especially during an opening, but making them right speaks volumes.

The menu takes traditional foundations and gives them a contemporary twist. We started with the birria taquitos, served alongside a crisp cabbage salad and mole. The taquitos arrived beautifully crisp, packed with a savory birria filling. While I found myself wishing for a more pronounced, robust consommé flavor to punch through the meat, it was still a solid, well-executed dish.

The queso fundido with kimchi-pickled onions was more surprising. This deviated heavily from expectations. It leaned far more toward a bean-dominant dip than a cheese-forward fundido. That said, the house-made kimchi pickled onions on top were stellar and added a fantastic, sharp acidity. As previously mentioned, due to a kitchen hiccup, our chips failed to hit the table at the same time as the dip. Once the house-made chips finally arrived, they were fresh, crisp, and paired nicely with a creamy salsa that complemented both appetizers.

Because my visit was shortened and took place during what seemed to be a soft opening, I don't think it represents Lucia at its best. Even so, I saw enough potential to make me want to come back. Next time, I'd like to explore the cocktail program, spend more time with the menu, and try one of their entrées. If you're staying at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, Taco Tuesday alone looks like a compelling reason to stop in. 3.75 out of 5 stars.
